He Never Died (Jason Krawczyk, 2015)

Cast: Henry Rollins, Booboo Stewart, Kate Greenhouse, Jordan Todosey

Summary: Jack, a social outcast, is thrust out of his comfort zone when the outside world bangs on his door and he can't contain his violent past.

Genre: Fantasy, Comedy, Horror

Watched: November 30th, 2016

I really enjoyed this film, it definitely turned out to be much better than I thought it was going to be.

I honestly wasn't expecting much after seeing the poster (never judge a book by its cover I know) because it reminded me of the film Legion (2010), which I liked but I know isn't really that good.

Henry Rollins is brilliant as Jack, the mysterious man no one seems to know anything about.
We soon learn that he has two suspicious scars on his back, goes to church, plays bingo (because it's something to do), goes to the same diner where he always has oatmeal and hot tea and has been alive for a very, very long time.

Just how long he has been alive, no one knows.

To be honest I found that I for the majority of the film I wasn't actually thinking about how long he had been alive or more about who he is. Even when his big secret is revealed Rollins does it in such a casual way that I thought okay I believe him and didn't need any in-depth explanations.

It's definitely a film I would recommend and watch again and again.

Rating: 8/10
One Final Word: Very Good

150 Films | Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! 2016 has ended and 2017 has now begun and that means that my 150 Films challenge is officially over!

If you're only just joining me, back in January I decided to set myself a goal to watch 150 films I've never seen before in one year (150 Films Challenge). I did one back in 2010 with 100 films just before in my last year of A Levels.
I actually wasn't planning to do another challenge so soon after my 150 Books, but after speaking to my sister I decided to give it a go.

I started off really well with 19 films in January mainly because of the few days I had off over the Christmas holidays, but the next few months were more of a struggle and numbers were a lot smaller with my quietest month being July with only 8 films watched.

I ramped it up a bit in September but especially in November when I watched one and a half films every day for 5 days after I realised I had 10 days to watch 14 films.

12 months, 365 days later I have managed to watch 151 films that I have never seen before.

I'm planning a round-up post shortly about some my favourite films from the challenge but before that stay tuned for my final monthly update: Other Films Watched in December!

Challenge | 150 Films in One Year

Well, there you go! I've finally written this post so now it's official.

So wayyy back in 2010 I decided to watch 100 films I'd never seen before in one year (100 Films in One Year), and one of my teachers at the time suggested that I create a blog to document my progress and so I did just that.
110 films later my goal was accomplished and I decided to keep the blog and continue writing about the films that I had seen.

Now 6 years after accomplishing my 2010 goal I've decided it's time to attempt another one, but this time I'm going to stretch it a little bit further and attempt to watch 150 films I've never seen before in one year.

Here's a little preview look at 3 films I've watched so far!

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge

Well hello there! That's it 2015 has finished so that means the end of my reading challenge. It's been a while since I've posted about my challenge, in fact the last post I wrote about it was my September update.

Back in September I think I was on 106 books and 29,273 pages, but now that the year is finally over I can officially say that I finished my goal with 134 books and over 37,478 pages. According to Goodreads the shortest book I've read is Venom at 91 pages, the longest is City of Heavenly Fire 725 pages and the most popular book I've read is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

To see the complete list of books that I read take a look see at my Year in Books.

Here's a few of the last books I read in 2015. Enjoy!

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | September

Well, well, well another month has passed and guess what? Yes that's right my friends I have completed my goal!!! Can't believe I've read over 29,273 pages.
For anyone just joining you can see all my challenge posts here: Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge

This month I managed to read 11 books; some very good books I might add, but I am nowhere near finished just yet as there are still a few books I want to read before the year is up.

Anywho, here's September's Books!

No One Ever Has Sex In The Suburbs (4*) (Tracey Bloom)- I remember seeing the book No One Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday and thinking oh that looks interesting. Somehow I ended up reading this book first and if it's anything like the first book then I was right. I really liked this book; my favourite thing about it is how parts of it are told from the male point of view which is something I've recently started to get into. A fun and interesting read.

The Third Wife (4*) (Lisa Jewell) - I quite liked this book. Full of mystery and surprise, it's great to read a story where you get to see the effects of having a large blended family. A husband, 1 wife, 2 ex-wives, 2 children in their 20s and 3 children under 12, definitely going to be a few problems.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest (4*) (Stieg Larson) - I think this book was fantastic, such a great way to finish up an equally fantastic trilogy. I've now finally seen the first film (the Swedish version, because I didn't think the Hollywood one would be as good) and although it still wasn't as good as the book, I'm super excited to see the next two.

Killing Memories (5*) (Tatiana Moore) - I've put this book down as a 5* but thinking about it now, I'm not actually sure that it was as good as I thought it was so it's going to have to get another read.

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | August

So we're another month in and we're almost there!!
I didn't actually read that many books this month as things have been a bit all over the place recently. I started an new job at the end of last month (more on that good news later) and then two days after I started I went on holiday, where it turns out that I didn't have much as much time for reading as I thought I would. But still I guess I was living the life eh?

This month I managed to read 8 books bringing my total to 91 which leaves my 8 books before I reach my 100 and I've read over 25,009 pages.

Daughter (2*) (Jane Shemilt) - A friend at work left this book for me to read after she had read it saying it was amazing. I had heard a few good things about this book and I'd seen countless posters of it on the underground. But unfortunately I didn't like it. I think it was a good book, it's well written, it starts off well and the middle is good, the majority of the book is really good, but I hated the ending. I don't want to say why I hated it because I think it would spoil the book for everybody else. Because I hated the ending so much it brought down my overall opinion of the book. Don't think I'll be reading that one again. (Let me know what you think!)

Coming Home (5*) (Annabel Kantaria) - I loved this book, so full of secrets, lies, love, hate... ooo just so much. I wasn't expecting most of what happened at all, the first major twist got me but it was definitely the final twist on the last few pages that had me shocked. A really great read, kept me captivated throughout.

The Tapestry of Us (2*) (Lily Pickard) - I really liked this book, I know what you're thinking, "but you only gave it a 2!". The book starts off really well but I was confused with the jump between times, for me it wasn't made clear which parts were in the past and what was in the present. Despite all that I still enjoyed the book but what had me disappointed was the ending, this time it just felt like there were a few pages missing, or that there is a sequel where the story continues.

A Single Breath (5*) (Lucy Clarke) - I started this book late last night and despite having to go to work the next morning , I stayed up to finish reading it. After doing that I can say that this book got to me and that certain parts had me crying like a baby. I seem to have a thing for books about grief, love and betrayal. Definitely going to give this book another read.

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | July

Another month gone and another 14 books read (although there's only 13 below because I couldn't find one on Goodreads). That brings my total to 85 books, around 23,403 pages read and I'm 23 books ahead of schedule, all in just 7 months.

In my last challenge post I did a round-up of the books I read from January to June which you can find here, Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | January - June, or see individual posts under challenge for short reviews on some of the books I've read.

How To Fall In Love (4*) (Cecelia Ahern) - I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was really interesting especially since it's Adam's character who attempts to commit suicide and is "rescued" by Christine and not vice versa.

Tim (4*) (Colleen McCullough) - This is another book I've read after seeing it on someone else's to-read list and it was absolutely fantastic. I loved this story there was everything you need in a good book, romance, heartbreak, friendship, family and drama. A really great read.

You (3*) (Caroline Kepnes) - This book actually confused me. I wasn't sure who was narrating at first and at times I found it difficult to follow what was going on. It has a great ending but I do need to give it another read.

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | January - June

So here we are, it's July and I've read a total of 77 books, around 21,510 pages and I'm 21 books ahead of schedule. I wrote in my Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | June that I had to take out 2 books from my total as I first read them a few years ago, so my total books read went from 75 to 73.

The longest book I've read is City of Heavenly Fire at 725 pages and I've just finished reading Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick. You can see all of the books I've read from January to June below and here are some of my favourites so far:

The Unwanted Wife | Sinner | If I Break Series (If I Break, Almost Broken, Beautifully Broken | Tim | The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo | The Maze Runner | The Greenhouse | The Two of Us | Edward Series (600 Hours of Edward, Edward Adrift) | Beneath the Moon and the Stars | Summer at the Little Beach Street Bakery |

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | June

Six months in and I'm more than halfway through my Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge, I actually reached the halfway mark early on in my Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | May.

I read 14 books in June which puts me at 73 books read (one of which isn't listed on the Goodreads site), it was originally 75 but then I realised two of the books I included in my total I had actually read a long time ago so I've had to take them out.

Room (4*) (Emma Donoghue) - I put this book on my to-read list a short while ago after someone I follow on Goodreads had. I wasn't 100% sure about what to expect when I started reading it but I have to say I really, really enjoyed it, although the speech was definitely a bit distracting. A great read.

The Wronged Sons (1*) (John Marrs) - This is the only book I've given a 1 star rating to so far this year. I didn't like this book at all, it was really annoying not knowing the reason as to why the things that were happening were happening (if you get what I mean). Then when I read the final conclusion I was left quite angry and regretting reading the book in the first place. I can't even say that I gave it a low rating because it's poorly written, it's purely because I hated the conclusion. Maybe I should give it another read.

Fractured (2*) (Dani Atkins) - Another book I didn't like but this time because the book confused me, there were just parts of it that just didn't make sense. Maybe I should read this one again too.

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | May

So we're almost halfway through the year and I'm making really good process with my Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge. In my April Goodreads Reading Challenge I doubled my goal to 100 after reading 47 books, and as of today (June 6th) I have read a total of 58 books.

So that's a total of 17 books read in May, well it's actually 18 but I wasn't able to include one as it isn’t' on the Goodreads site. I'm now on 15,463 pages, 15 books ahead of schedule and the longest book I've read is It's Not Me It's You at 544 pages.

If I Break Series | If I Break, Almost Broken and Beautifully Broken (5*) (Portia Moore) - I thoroughly enjoyed these books so much so that I (once again) stayed up all night reading them. I thought that the story was really interesting and definitely not something that I was expecting. Things did start to become a little unbelievable in the last book but I can look past that because as a whole they were still really good. Definitely 3 books of the month.

The Maze Runner (5*) (James Dashner) - I really, really wanted to watch the film with my Aunt when it came out last year but I promised myself that I would read the book before I watched the film. A few weeks after reading the book I watched the film with my parents, and as good as the film is I think the book is way better. The books makes things so much clearer and explains them in more detail. I think I'm going to wait until just before the next film comes out before I read the next book.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (5*) (Stieg Larson) - This is another book of the month. I've had this book sitting on my kindle for a good couple of months as I pretty much avoided reading it for some strange reason. When I did start reading it I was unimpressed by the estimated 11 hours i would take me to read it, as well as the fact that the first few chapters was mostly made up of inner monologue. It took me a few days to get used to it but when I did I thought the book was absolutely fantastic, it was an incredible read. Also I'm pretty sure it took me way longer than 11 hours to read over a week.

600 Hours of Edward and Edward Adrift (4.5*) (Edward Lancaster) - I really fell in love with Edward in these stories, I feel like he was easy to relate to which I think is really good considering his various mental health issues. I was up all night reading the second book so I was happy to find out that there will be a third book. I did find the parts about Dragnet and the Dallas Cowboys super boring but it was still a good read.

58 books down, 42 to go. What books are you reading?
Let me know!

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge | April

So here we are with another post on my Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge. In the last post on my Goodreads Reading Challenge I mentioned that I would increase my goal from 50 books when I hit my goal, now I haven't actually reached my goal (I'm only 3 books away) but this afternoon (May 12th) I decided to double my goal to 100.

As of today my Goodreads Reading Challenge is made up of 47 books (including some May books) which equals 11,921 pages, and I'm 11 books ahead of schedule. Pretty awesome right? So here are the books that I read in April.

Clarity Series (3*) (Loretta Lost) - Despite the mid-level rating I actually I think that this is my book of the month. I was up all night reading the whole series one after the other and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Personally I think the first book is the best one in the series (the other 3 weren't as good, the last one for me was the worst even though it was still good).

Beneath The Moon and the Stars (4*) (Holly Martin/Amelia Thorne) - I really, really liked this book maybe even loved it but I can't fully remember everything that happened so it's definitely worth another read. But I did love the air of mystery that surrounds Joy.

Sinner (5*) (Maggie Stiefvater) - I've been in love with Maggie ever since my sister bought me her book Shiver as a birthday present a few years ago. After seeing it on the New York Times Best Sellers list she thought I would like it and she was absolutely right. Now I loved reading Grace and Sam's story in the trilogy but my favourite characters were actually Isabel and Cole, so when I heard that there was a companion novel just for them I knew I had to have it.

Forever Sunshine (5*) (Collette Scott) - Well well another 5* book in April. I felt like I had to give this book a 5. I originally gave the book a 2 but then though don't be too harsh Jaye give it a 3. To be honest the book didn't a 2 or a 3 it truly does deserve the big fat 5. The book was truly incredible, the story was amazing it's just that I was so shocked by the ending I didn't expect it at all and I think that it left me quite angry.

Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge

So I mentioned back in February in this post on What's On My Kindle that I was doing the Goodreads Reading Challenge for 2015, and I thought I'd update you on how I was doing.
I originally set my goal at 25 before changing it to 50 and as of today (April 5th) I've read 21 books and I'm 7 books ahead of schedule. I still think I could read more books in a year so I think I might up the number when I reach my 50, but here are the books I've read so far (Jan-March).

goodreads 2015 reading challenge jan-march

The Unwanted Series | The Unwanted Wife and A Husband's Regret (Natasha Anders) - I really enjoyed these two books. I read A Husband's Regret first and finished it in one day after staying up all night to read it. I bought The Unwanted Wife straight after reading A Husband's Regret and I loved so much more.

The Greenhouse (5*) (Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir) - I thought this book was incredibly good. I was a little confused at first and at other times because it has been translated from I believe Icelandic. At first I wasn't sure where it was set and if they were speaking English (the name of the author should have been a big giveaway), but after a couple of chapters I got used to it and it's definitely in my top 5.

Fallen Crest Family (2*) - I originally read the first book in this series maybe a couple years back on Wattpad which I actually quite enjoyed and I only bought the second book as the first ended somewhat in a cliff hanger. It didn't really answer questions I had and left me a bit more confused, but it did end with a neat little bow which means I don't think I'll be reading the rest of the series.

The Two of Us (5*) - This is another book in my top five. I had read the blurb but at first when I started reading it I was unsure of where the story was going, but as it turns out I absolutely loved it. It totally moved me and left me in tears. I also loved that it's told from a male perspective.

21 books down, 29 to go. What books are you reading?

What's on my Kindle

I had been planning on writing a single post on what some of my favourite e-books are but then I decided, why not make it a regular thing? So welcome to the first of many posts about books I've read and am reading at the moment.

On my birthday last year my parents brought me a kindle because my mum refuses to buy me any more physical books. I didn't use it for the first couple months of but now I use it like mad, a 3 hour journey to and from work means that I have a lot of time for reading.
At the beginning of the year Goodreads, a site for readers and book recommendations created this 2015 Reading Challenge which I thought was a pretty good idea so I thought I'd join in and set myself a goal to read 50 new books this year, and so far I've managed to read 6.

What are you reading?
